themothking: byzantienne: This is my manuscript. Or anyway it’s the verso of folio 268 of my manuscript. I went all the way to Greece to take pictures of it. It is vaguely disconcerting that it is a) the only one there is of it (I work on medieval Greek letter collections and this is the ONLY EXTANT VERSION of one of the collections); b) 1000+ years old; c) I touched it. Also I’m spending all evening trying to figure out if it was read aloud ever, and if so, in what contexts. This is both UTTERLY COOL and deeply deeply frustrating. I cannot begin to imagine how difficult this must be to translate, but it’s breathtaking.
